Large, ultra-modern and conveniently located. A new operational site for the Rieck Logistics Group is currently being built at VGP Park Oberkrämer, north of Berlin. Here Rieck is building a combined freight forwarding and logistics terminal with 23,000 square meters of floor space. The new facility will be equipped with a modern solar roof and offer e-charging stations for trucks and cars - the investment sum is around 26 million euros.
Geographically well located
VGP Park is located in the north-west of Berlin, with the headquarters in Großbeeren in the south-east of the capital. "With the new terminal right on the other side of the Berliner Ring, we are optimizing the delivery and collection of goods from both the north and south of the Berlin region," says Stefan Rieck. "Thanks to the shorter routes, the vehicles not only make more stops - we are also improving our carbon footprint."
Thanks to its location on the Berlin ring road, the A24 to the north can also be reached quickly. Stefan Rieck: "This is another plus point for us, as it means we can easily connect not only our locations in Hamburg, but also our branch in Kavelstorf near Rostock."
More efficient handling
The operational focus at the new Oberkrämer site is on incoming groupage goods. For outgoing consignments, Rieck will primarily serve hub transports and direct lines from here. As Rieck will be able to split consignment volumes between Großbeeren and Oberkrämer in future, there will be sufficient capacity available at both locations for further growth. "For some customer projects, it makes perfect sense to move here from Großbeeren," says Stefan Rieck. "This allows us to further optimize transport and processes."
The new facility has 107 gates for smooth incoming and outgoing goods, and the site offers space for 55 swap bodies. Around 80 employees will be working here in future, for which Rieck is creating new jobs.
Good partnership
Rieck is implementing the new building with the VGP Group, a European provider of high-quality logistics and commercial real estate, and is thus continuing a successful collaboration: "We also implemented our logistics terminal in Rade near Hamburg together with VGP in 2017 - so we know each other and know that we have a reliable partner at our side," says Stefan Rieck.
Preparatory earthworks are currently underway on the 67,000 square meter site at VGP Park Oberkrämer. The terminal will then start to rise at the beginning of the new year - the first concrete supports are expected to be put in place in January. And then everything will happen very quickly: as soon as the hall scaffolding is in place, the roof construction, side walls and interior fittings will follow. As early as July, shelving systems will be installed and forklifts, furniture and equipment will be moved in. Stefan Rieck: "And in mid-August we will celebrate the opening and then start operations!"
