Strong network for strong air freight

Air freight is on the upswing with us: Rieck and its TANDEM network reliably secure access to global markets.

Since last year, our air freight division has once again shown strong growth momentum. In terms of weight, air freight only accounts for one percent of global trade in goods. In terms of the value of goods, however, it accounts for 35 percent. "High-value goods are often shipped by air freight and require particularly fast and secure transportation," explains Steven Buchinger, Airfreight Director. “The reliability of the service is therefore also an important point. Thanks to our TANDEM network, we have a wealth of contacts and expertise in the world's major trading centers, which enables us to pass on a perfectly coordinated service to our customers.”

Fokus China

China is Germany's second most important trading partner in airfreight traffic - and even our number one. In addition to the traditionally strong exports - which we serve with fixed consol capacities from Frankfurt to Shanghai, among other things - imports are also becoming increasingly important. At the beginning of the year, our Airfreight Director Steven Buchinger was on site to intensify cooperation with our partners and our new company TANDEM Rieck Global Logistics (TRGL). The focus was on operational topics such as transport processes in Europe, aviation security in Germany and improving communication channels. He then visited partners in the region, some of whom he has known since his apprenticeship in 2006. "Consistency and trust play a major role here, especially with larger orders," explains Steven Buchinger. We are currently handling several import project shipments from our partner in Wuxi. Individual packages with excess length and a unit weight of up to 6,900 kilos are now part of our daily business.

"Our customers appreciate the strong TANDEM network: our air freight volume is constantly increasing."
Steven Buchinger, Airfreight Director

Growth countries Israel and Brazil

The local market in Israel is slowly recovering and the demand for air freight is increasing - even if it can only be loaded to a limited extent due to the still tense situation. We are supporting the expansion of capacities and serve Tel Aviv Airport with a wide range of airlines. In addition to normal commercial goods, we also recently handled a special delivery: Entire X-Ray units, which ensure greater security when entering public facilities.

Brazil is a very interesting market for us with exciting prospects for the future. We have had a new TANDEM partner here for three years, with whom we are in close contact and are continuously processing more volumes. The Brazilian government is also making efforts to reduce bureaucracy so that imports and exports can be made easier and therefore cheaper. One measure to modernize and speed up customs clearance is the introduction of the single goods declaration for the import and export of goods. Speaking of customs, we were able to help out in Berlin at short notice with a bird shipment to Brazil - the customer was not aware that these also had to be cleared through customs. Our customs department stepped in, took care of customs clearance and issued new waybills within a few hours. "We really are equipped for any type of air freight - even for rather unusual goods," Steven Buchinger sums up with a laugh.
