For years now, many consumers have been accustomed to having their orders—regardless of size—delivered directly to their homes. “We are also noticing this trend,” explains Gunnar Jung, Managing Director of Rieck Systemspedition. “Many of our customers are online retailers who expect us to deliver bulky goods to private addresses via a freight forwarding network in the same way they are used to when using a CEP service provider.” At the same time, demand from online retailers for B2B deliveries – for example, to workshops or small shops – is increasing. Regardless of the recipient of a shipment, one trend is continuing: parcel-sized goods are becoming increasingly unwieldy.
Small furniture and vehicle parts are shipped alongside sports equipment, bicycles, and balcony power plants. These items can weigh up to 50 kilograms and are sometimes over 2 meters long. It is particularly important that everything arrives safely, which means that, in addition to the right packaging, palletization is sometimes required for safe handling during transshipment and delivery.
Bei uns geht alles ins Paket
We have our own terminals for packing and picking at our shipping locations. This is where we can demonstrate our expertise: we have developed reusable racks for exhaust pipes and new cardboard packaging for solar modules. For some items, we can use standardised wooden boxes, while others require cardboard packaging with special dimensions.
“Cost-optimized shipping starts with the right packaging,” sums up Gunnar Jung. We sort the goods by country and consolidation points so that all vehicles are efficiently loaded and can reach their destinations throughout Europe. Most routes start from our headquarters in Großbeeren near Berlin. We are also increasingly handling shipments for our customers across Europe – whether from the Czech Republic to Austria or from Poland to France. All of Europe. In large packages. And always efficiently.
