Maritime cranes are the core business of Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH. Among other things, the company manufactures ship cranes, mobile harbor cranes and offshore cranes. And it does so extremely successfully: "Liebherr is the world market leader in the mobile harbor crane segment, and our equipment is used in over 100 countries," says Dieter Schmidt, press spokesman for Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH.
Liebherr has been working with HOMTRANS from Rostock for one and a half years. The Rieck subsidiary mainly transports road freight for the crane manufacturer in Germany and Europe. On board: spare parts and components, tools, ballast, pipes and cylinders. HOMTRANS also supports its customers when it comes to packaging: "Dangerous goods shipments that are transported by air freight must be properly packaged," says HOMTRANS Sales Manager Ronny Zellhorn. "Strict regulations from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) apply here."
XXL transport to Italy
In spring, HOMTRANS handled a special order for its customer: The transport professionals organized a project transport from the Liebherr plant in Rostock to the Italian port city of Trieste.
The unpacked goods weighed 3.5 tons and 6.5 tons each. Not only were they very heavy, but at 3.5 meters they were also as wide as they were high. Ronny Zellhorn: "Comprehensive official permits are mandatory for such special transports. We took care of the entire project process and everything went like clockwork."
