Nadine Möller vor einem Fahrzeug der Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik

„Have fun with the tasks!"

From trainee to manager in Neuss – Nadine Möller on leadership, learning, and learning curves.

The foundation of her career at Rieck was laid 21 years ago when she trained as a freight forwarding and logistics services clerk. In 2016, Nadine Möller moved to Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik in Neuss. Less than four years later, she took over as head of logistics and was granted power of attorney. The next step came in 2023, when she assumed sole responsibility for traffic management. For the past year, the 38-year-old has been responsible for the operational management of Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik.

Looking back on the past twelve months, what were the most important projects for you?

One of the aims of the new role was to improve operational processes and act as a link between business and departmental management. The focus was on further expanding the destruction goods division and recruiting new specialist staff and professional drivers for us. There is certainly still a lot to do, but so far we have been able to achieve our goals.

What were the biggest challenges in your first year as a manager, and what experiences helped you?

There is a difference between being responsible for four employees and being responsible for almost 70. Every employee has different needs and concerns that must be taken into account individually. It has helped me greatly that I already had leadership responsibilities on a smaller scale, conducted performance reviews, and know the company so well. Planning and organizing are also an important part of my job—I learned that during my training.

Previously, you were responsible for logistics, now you're responsible for waste disposal. How did you familiarize yourself with this new role?

The issue of waste was also something I dealt with in my previous position, but not as intensively. This required a lot of brainpower and intensive coaching from our managing director Daniel Gartmann. We talk every day, give each other updates on the latest issues that arise, and have become a real team. I stand in for him when he is absent—I see this as a great sign of trust.

„At Rieck, you don't get lost in the crowd; you stand out when you get involved and embrace the 'blue and yellow' spirit."
Nadine Möller

How would you describe your leadership style?

Cooperative, with open communication and honest feedback. I have always believed that a management style based on mutual respect and a sense of humor is more successful than running the company with a heavy hand. I also gained a lot of additional inspiration from the Rieck "Fit for Future" program, which I have been able to put into practice.

What developments do you currently see in the waste disposal logistics market?

One of the key topics for the future is comprehensive battery logistics. The issue of product destruction—including for and with customs—is becoming an increasingly important and significant topic.

What career advice would you give to young colleagues who are just starting out at Rieck?

At Rieck, you're not just one of millions. Here, your strengths are recognized and encouraged. Be open to new things, even if they seem like a huge challenge at first. Always contribute your ideas, communicate freely, and be creative. Think outside the box and enjoy your work. With a little hard work, the rest will (almost) take care of itself.

One last personal question: How do you prefer to unwind after a busy day at work?

I love standing in the kitchen and cooking something delicious. It completely calms me down and helps me relax. I also enjoy being creative or cooking according to my grandmother's old recipes. I also like sitting in my garden, meeting friends, and simply relaxing at the end of the day.
