Seven years ago, Lan Lan Li (40) came to Germany from China with her husband and three children - and one thing was clear to her straight away: she wanted to feel at home here as soon as possible. So she continued to learn German, signed up not only for the local soccer club FVO Ottendorf-Okrilla, but also for kickboxing at Fightclub Hermsdorf and - after a successful career as an interpreter at an import and export company in Suzhou and assistant restaurant manager in Shenzhen - started looking for an apprenticeship.
In order to make the best possible use of her experience, it had to be a company with international customer contact. "The Shanghai Tower on the Rieck website immediately appealed to me and embodied internationality - that was the final deciding factor for me to apply to Rieck," she laughs. And her wish for international contacts has been fulfilled: Especially currently in the sales department, her English language skills are required and she can make customer contacts in the field.
"Lan Lan Li's age and background naturally mean that she has completely different experience to other trainees," says Martin Lindemann, Head of Sales. "But what makes her stand out the most is her determination and hard work. Typical for her: She also has fixed sports routines planned into her working day and practices her office fitness every day."
A culinary journey home
In her free time, Lan Lan Li spins her wheels in the kitchen as well as doing sport. The sales team led by Martin Lindemann at the Dresden site were also delighted to see her serving up traditional Chinese delicacies such as jiao zi (dumplings) and tang cu pai gu (ribs with sweet and sour sauce).
But she has also arrived in her new home country in culinary terms: Her colleague Marc-Louis Kempe's bread salad tastes just as delicious.
