Looking at the big picture

Digitalization and streamlining processes are more important than ever - and in the right hands with Manuel Yakoub.

Six years ago, the technical business economist with a focus on business consulting moved into logistics, and since the beginning of 2024 Manuel Yakoub has been driving forward strategic projects as Head of Logistics Engineering, Operational Excellence & Implementation. In this interview, the 35-year-old reveals why he is passionate about the industry and digitalization and what is particularly important in this regard.

What drew you to logistics?

The industry is incredibly diverse and extremely dynamic. Increasing market requirements - i.e. shorter delivery times and even more flexibility, sustainability and transparency in the supply chain - are not only leading to an ever-growing range of logistics solutions, but also to rapid digital progress. Looking at these developments in an overall context and aligning them with our strategy is particularly exciting.

What is your area of work at Rieck?

I am responsible for strategic projects within Rieck Systemspedition - this mainly involves digitalization, streamlining processes or implementing systems for our customers and partners.

Do you have an example for us?

We have just completed the implementation of the cadis software for optimizing yard management in Großbeeren. With this solution, we record and digitize all vehicle movements - from arrival to cross-docking or unloading to departure. We can now identify and eliminate bottlenecks and inefficiencies much more easily. The use of automation tools and AI is on the agenda for next year - finding the right areas of application and solutions will be very exciting.

"Digitalization allows us to reduce the workload on employees and further improve quality at the same time."
Manuel Yakoub

What are the biggest challenges besides this?

The focus is always on taking employees along on the journey of digitalization and automation. Sometimes there is a fear that additional input will be time-consuming or that new systems will lead to extra work. Good communication is important here about how day-to-day work will be simplified after the initial changeover and what benefits a system has for everyone involved - and, of course, good training.

And finally: What do you like about Rieck?

That Rieck is a family business. I noticed that on the very first day. Many colleagues have been here for many years - I always listen enthusiastically when they talk and tell me about their journey in the company.
