Cycling is trending and the e-bike is in the fast lane: over the course of this year, pedelecs will overtake conventional bicycles in terms of unit sales for the first time. E-bikes already dominate the market for cargo bikes and mountain bikes. However, the production of batteries is very energy-intensive and the extraction of raw materials also has an ecological impact. The shorter the bike is used, the greater the impact. And this is where the Upway platform comes into play: it gives e-bikes a second life.
Analyzed, processed and ...
Upway buys old pedelecs, subjects them to a detailed analysis and then refurbishes them so that they are as close to new condition as possible. The shopping experience should be simple, fast and safe - and also includes the logistics of the bikes: "With our high-quality products, we attach great importance to short delivery times, detailed shipment tracking and the option for customers to adjust the delivery date," explains Florian Groß, Operations Manager Upway. "Rieck has been a reliable partner right from the start."
... put on the road
The collaboration started at the beginning of the year. We collect the consignments daily from the Upway logistics center in Berlin and handle them in Großbeeren. The refurbished e-bikes are shipped in cardboard boxes; cargo bikes are fixed on a double pallet. The bikes are sent to end consumers throughout Germany. "Our B2C service includes emails about the entire transport process as well as various options for recipients, such as alternative delivery, appointment options or parking permits. If there are any disruptions, we have to react quickly and find a solution," says Gunnar Jung, Key Account Rieck Holding Großbeeren. The Upway concept is proving popular: The number of shipments is rising steadily. And we are delighted with every bike that we can accompany on its sustainable journey.
