As part of the 'Longevity' project, S-Bahn Berlin GmbH is initially refurbishing 309 ageing class 481 quarter trains with the aim of making them fit for continued operation for around ten years. Since April 2021, Rieck has been handling parts of the project's warehouse logistics for the S-Bahn plant in Berlin-Schöneweide. "We are the partner for supplying and disposing of the production," says Gunnar Mickeleit-Jung, who looks after the customer at Rieck.
"We regularly bring a wide variety of components from the central goods receiving department of S-Bahn Berlin GmbH to our interim storage facility. The plant orders as required and we deliver." Doors, seats and flooring are stored at Rieck Fulfillment Solutions in Berlin-Schönefeld on an area of around 1,500 square meters. At least three times a week, the Rieck shuttle travels the 20 minutes to the S-Bahn plant.
The customer project came about after the S-Bahn put the project out to tender across Europe.
"We opted for Rieck's services. The modern warehouse and Rieck's experience with customers from the rail industry were convincing," says Hendrik Paepke from S-Bahn Berlin.
